PicoSure® Laser Treatment for Pigmentation, Acne Scars and Tattoo Removal
We provide an array of treatments in Singapore revolutionised by the PicoSure Laser, the world’s leading picosecond aesthetic laser. This PicoSure laser widely recognized for its technology leadership and proven performance for Pico laser treatment of Pigmentation, Acne Scars and Colour Tattoo removal.
What is PicoSure laser?
PicoSure laser is a new generation laser that delivers ultrashort laser pulses in picoseconds (10−12) whereas compared to the traditional Q-switched laser, which delivers laser pulses in nanoseconds. It is a 755nm wavelength Alexandrite laser that leverages on picosecond laser technology to manage the treatment of hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and colour tattoo with remarkable results.

What makes PicoSure Laser so unique?
Unlike most other picosecond devices, PicoSure utilizes a 755 nm wavelength that naturally targets melanin. It absorbs less blood than the 1064 nm wavelength. In trillionths of a second, the 755 nm energy relies less on photothermal action than longer-pulsed devices, instead creating an intense photomechanical impact. This technology not only spares the skin from high thermal damage, it also has greater disruption on the target chromophore with better clearance using less energy and fewer treatments. In layman’s terms, it is an ideal treatment for treating pigmentary conditions, as more Pico laser shots can be delivered into the dermis.
PicoSure Laser has additional functions using patented Focus Lens Array. With its unique method of action, the Focus Lens precisely redistributes and delivers 755 nm energy to the skin. Both the high and low intensity energy lightens and shatters stubborn pigments under the skin. The high energy creates Laser-Induced Optical Breakdown (LIOB) in the epidermis without damaging the skin surface.
LIOBs form and absorb incoming energy, expanding so quickly that they create pressure waves, which transmit into the dermis. This pressure squeezes the surrounding cells and simulates a pressure injury, activating cell signaling and inducing an enhanced inflammatory healing response. This process leads to increased collagen and elastin production in the dermis without damage caused by energy passing through the dermoepidermal junction.
In addition, the 755nm wavelength device breaks tattoo inks that are difficult to remove, such as black, blue and green. Patients treated with Focus experience only a few hours of mild redness.
Dr Kenneth Thean explains the different types of pico lasers and how does it work on your skin.
Picosure Laser : A More Effective Pigmentation Solution
Traditional lasers use photothermal energy to shatter pigments, while the Pico laser disrupts stubborn pigments by emitting short pulses. This is to treat a wide range of skin pigmentation issues such as freckles, sun spots, and melasma. It uses ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to break down pigments into smaller dust-like particles that can be absorbed by the lymphatic system and eliminated naturally. The shorter exposure of the Pico laser also significantly reduces the risks of burning, scarring and other adverse side effects of traditional laser treatments.
The Tool For Colour Tattoo Removal
Apart from skin rejuvenation, acne scar removal and hyperpigmentation treatment, the PicoSure laser is also effective for removing colour tattoos. Its strength lies in its ability to shatter tattoo ink particles effectively. By targeting the laser on the tattoo ink particles in picoseconds, it can effectively clear stubborn ink colours such as orange, yellow, red, blue, purple and green.
A Gentle Alternative for Acne Scar Treatment
PicoSure Laser is one of the latest FDA approved treatments for pigmentation, skin texture and acne scars treatment. The Focus Lens is a hexagonal, closed packed diffractive lens array which is 500μm centre to centre. More energy is concentrated in the small spot, which makes it 20x more powerful than normal lens.
By delivering short Pico laser pulses that are 10 times shorter in duration than a traditional Q-switched laser, more laser shots can be delivered with each pulse staying on the skin for a shorter duration. This means that less heat is generated in the skin, causing significantly less damage to the skin tissue.
Through its targeted mode of energy delivery, PicoSure reaches the dermis layer, improving acne scars with the formation of new collagen and elastin production.
Dr Thean's Advice & Recommendation
The 755nm Alexandrite wavelength is an ideal balance between 532nm and 1064nm picolasers. It selectively targets melanin and blood vessels without damaging the skin's surface. But I found that by combining a variety of lasers with PicoSure, I can target the different layers of the skin and achieve an optimal result.
