Treatment to Rejuvenate Aging Skin

Skin rejuvenation refers to a set of treatments and procedures that aim to improve the overall appearance and health of the skin. As we age, our skin undergoes various changes, including loss of elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, and uneven texture. Skin rejuvenation is an effective way to help address these concerns and leave the skin looking youthful and refreshed. With a range of treatments and procedures available, there is something to suit every skin type and concern.

Signs of aging skin

Skin aging is caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic aging is a natural process that occurs over time as the body's production of collagen and elastin slows down. This leads to thinning, sagging, and the formation of wrinkles. Extrinsic aging, on the other hand, is caused by external factors such as sun exposure, smoking, pollution, and poor lifestyle habits like lack of sleep and a poor diet. These factors can accelerate the aging process and contribute to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging such as textural irregularities, pigmentation (freckles, sunspots or visible blood vessels). In addition, skin may lose tone, feel less firm and lose the healthy glow that is evident in younger skin. Hence the need for skin rejuvenation treatments.

Let us understand the four aspects below of how the face ages and which skin rejuvenation treatment is suitable for you.

1) Volume loss in the face

As we age, our skin naturally loses volume due to a decrease in collagen and elastin production. This loss of volume can result in sunken or hollowed areas, particularly around the cheeks, brows, temples, and eyes. This can result in saggy upper eyelids and nasolabial folds also known as the laugh lines. It can also lead to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as the skin becomes less plump and elastic.

2) Loss of skin elasticity

The loss of skin elasticity is another common sign of aging. Skin elasticity is what gives our skin that healthy, youthful glow look. When the skin's collagen and elastin fibers break down, it leads to the loss of firmness and suppleness. This can result in sagging skin, particularly around the neck and jawline, and the formation of wrinkles and fine lines around the forehead, eyes and mouth.

3) Poor skin quality & rough skin texture

The overall quality and texture of the skin can also change as we age. Our skin might not be able to absorb moisture as well as before and therefore leading to dryness, roughness, and a loss of radiance and vibrancy. The skin may also become more prone to blemishes, including acne, and may appear dull or uneven in tone. Our skin may also start to feel flaking and develop fine lines and enlarged pores.

4) Pigmentation on the face

Age spots, also known as sun spots or liver spots, are a common sign of aging skin. These are caused by an accumulation of melanin in the skin, which is often the result of prolonged sun exposure. Age spots can appear as small, dark patches on the skin, and can be particularly noticeable on the face, hands, and arms. The longer its left untreated, it can give rise to problems such as Melasma.

How Do I Reverse Aging?

Different treatment modalities are available to treat the different aspects of skin damage.

Laser resurfacing treatments, RF microneedling, chemical peels and injectable products can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles of the entire face or those that develop in specific regions of the face, such as the upper lip and around the eyes. These treatments can also be used to address pigmentation disorders, such as sun and age spots. Skin rejuvenating treatment can also be used to improve the appearance of acne scars or other skin conditions.

The specific type of treatment that will address your concerns are determined after a consultation with our doctor. Most skin treatments require a series of treatments and a multi-modal approach to achieve optimal results. Most importantly, patient must be committed to protecting his or her skin going forward.
