FRUSTRATED WITH

ACNE & SCARS

We hear you.

Finding the right treatment for your pimples and acne scars can be a challenge. The reason is simple enough. Not every treatment is suitable for you because both pimples and acne scars are unique to each person. Some people suffer from multiple types of acne and a combination of ice pick scars, boxcar scars, or rolling scars. In many cases, it’s a combination of pimples and scar types that may require a multimodal treatment approach.

But you don’t really have to worry.  The right diagnosis with an experienced doctor can easily lead you to the best treatment solution for your pimples and acne scars.

Early Treatment Can Prevent the Chances of Acne Scarring

Why Is Early Treatment of Acne Important?

Acne can develop at any age, especially during the teenage years. However, acne can strike at will, whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or beyond. In women, pregnancy and menstrual cycles are known to trigger acne attacks due to an increase in hormone level. Without proper treatment at the earlier stage, anyone can be a potential target of acne and acne scars.

How Acne is Formed

The problem begins when your sebaceous glands shift to overdrive mode. The hyperactive glands start producing more sebum than your skin needs. This excess sebum or body oil, combines with dead skin cells and clogs the hair follicles or pores. These clogged pores are an open invitation for bacteria to breed.  This unhygienic cocktail of oil, dead skin cells and bacteria causes irritation, skin inflammation and infection. As a result, pimples or red bumps, often filled with pus, begin to sprout on your skin. Before you realise it, you are stuck with acne.

How Acne Scars is Formed

Acne scars form when lesions such as papules, pustules or cysts, get inflamed and infected. When these inflamed lesions ‘pop’ or burst, the follicle walls get damaged or ripped apart. The contents of the ruptured lesions seep into the surrounding skin tissues and damage them.

The larger and deeper breaks in the follicle wall cause substantial skin damage. Hence, depressed scars formed. As part of its efforts to heal the injured dermis, the skin develops new collagen fibers to repair the skin. Due to insufficient collagen production, the skin fails to regain its original smoothness and flawless tone.

Post Inflammatory Erythema (PIE) also known as red acne marks occurs when blood flow is cut off during inflammation. The red or pink marks on the skin can be caused by inflammation, dilation of the blood vessels, or damage to the blood vessels. Erythema is more likely to occur as your skin thins as it heals.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) develops when the skin becomes inflamed as a result of a wound or pimple. In the healing process, the skin produces too much melanin, which darkens and discolours the skin. Even after the wound has completely healed, this discolouration remains. Furthermore, picking or popping a pimple can result in PIH since it increases inflammation.

Radiofrequency Treatment for Acne Scars

The available wealth of information on pimples and acne scar treatments makes it difficult to understand what’s best for your particular condition. This is primarily because not every acne scar treatment is suitable for all patients. Treatments vary just as acne scars differ from person to person. Therefore, a detailed consultation and assessment is important before choosing the suitable acne treatment for your skin.

The exhaustive range of acne scar treatments includes chemical peels, TCA, fractional Erbium Yag, fractional CO2 laser, dermal fillers, ablative radiofrequency and radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. Studies indicate that Radiofrequency acne scar treatment scores over many of the conventional acne scar treatments available. Apart from reducing the sebum production, radiofrequency treatment also helps damaged skin tissues to regenerate more effectively without damaging the surrounding skin tissues. Researchers have also shown that the risk of developing PIH during treatment for acne scars with CO2 laser is up to 40%, while the risk of developing PIH during RF treatment is 5% to 8%. That’s why RF is the preferred choice treatment to tackle acne inflammations and scars.

How does Radiofrequency Microneedling Work on Acne Scars?

The RF microneedling device is armed with a numerous small and fine needles that are  customised to deliver heat energy of 40 to 60°C directly to the papillary dermis.

During the procedure, the microneedles help to break down the skin fibrosis in a controlled manner. Thereafter, the skin begins to produce collagen and rebuilds the damage done to the connective tissue, which will help improve the scarring.

Improved skin hydration levels and decreased levels of PIH are the additional takeaways from this treatment. The best part is that the longitudinal treatment allows specific targeting of the damaged skin cells.

Benefits of Radiofrequency Microneedling

Ablative Radiofrequency and Radiofrequency microneedling treatments are comprehensive modalities that can treat a host of skin conditions.  From acne, acne scars, melasma, hyperpigmentation, enlarged skin pores, to uneven skin tone, and texture. It can also help to reverse the effects of ageing by erasing wrinkles and rejuvenating the skin.

Other Treatments Available For Acne & Acne Scars

Acne scars are complex skin conditions with causes that go beyond cosmetic issues. While factors such as hormonal activity, genetic makeup, and stress play a part in the development of acne, the solutions go beyond skin-deep. Moreover, not everyone’s acne scars can be treated the same way. Effectively treating acne scars calls for identifying the root causes and addressing them. Assessment and diagnosis of the root causes of acne are an integral aspect of acne medical treatment. Thus, a customized multi-modal approach based on medical principles can help deliver effective treatment for acne.
